Spot Bitcoin ETFs Post $229M Weekly Outflows, Ether ETFs Shed $320M

Spot bitcoin ETFs recorded $229 million in net outflows for the trading week of Oct. 12–16, Wu Blockchain reported, citing SoSoValue data. BlackRock's IBIT led all funds with $165 million leaving over five sessions. Spot ether ETFs shed $320 million — their third consecutive week of net redemptions.

Details

The week was shaped by macroeconomic volatility. Tuesday, Oct. 13, brought a brief reversal — bitcoin ETFs attracted $176 million and ether ETFs broke a ten-day losing streak with $24.8 million in inflows. But Wednesday's hotter-than-expected CPI print sent BTC below $82,000 and triggered $261 million in BTC ETF outflows alongside $130 million leaving ETH funds. Thursday and Friday added further losses.

The daily breakdown for bitcoin ETFs: −$65.4M (Mon), +$175.6M (Tue), −$261M (Wed), +$5M (Thu), −$82.4M (Fri). For ether ETFs, Tuesday was the only green day (+$24.8M); the other four sessions combined for −$345M in outflows.

IBIT accounted for the majority of bitcoin ETF outflows at $165 million for the week. Full fund-by-fund data is on CoinLab's ETF Flows page.

What It Means for Markets

Three straight weeks of ether ETF outflows signal sustained institutional caution toward the asset. Bitcoin ETF outflows of $229M for the week are moderate by historical standards — weekly losses have at times exceeded $681M — with CPI data remaining the dominant headwind. Until inflation expectations stabilize, institutional flows into crypto ETFs are likely to stay choppy.
