About CoinLab and methodology

CoinLab is a site about Bitcoin and the crypto market in English and Russian. A daily brief with a forecast is published every morning, live market data refreshes throughout the day, and the newsroom publishes news, articles and a weekly review. The site is not tied to any one country.

Where the numbers come from

  • Price, candles, funding, open interest, long/short — Binance; funding is also compared with Bybit, OKX and Hyperliquid.
  • Market cap, dominance, coins — CoinGecko. Options, max pain, DVOL, risk reversal — Deribit.
  • Bitcoin network (hashrate, difficulty, fees) — mempool.space. Fear & Greed Index — alternative.me.
  • Macro — Yahoo Finance, Treasury yields — U.S. Treasury. Stablecoins — DefiLlama. Prediction markets — Polymarket.

Live numbers refresh every 15 minutes; the header price every 10 seconds. Raw data is open: market.json, fractals.json, accuracy.json.

Daily brief and forecast

The brief is prepared by the newsroom with AI tools: nine topics, 50+ facts, each linked to its primary source. The release time is shown above the text; if the price has moved more than 1% since the morning, the page shows a notice.

The forecast has three scenarios for the day (Sideways, Pullback, Breakout) with probabilities and price ranges. It is recorded in the morning and never edited. After the UTC daily close a script checks which range the price landed in and logs the result in the Accuracy section — misses included.

Market pulse

Market temperature (0–100) is the average of eight indicators, each scaled 0–100 against historical tops and bottoms: MVRV, Mayer multiple, distance from the 200-week average, Pi Cycle, distance from the all-time high, Fear & Greed, average funding across four exchanges (annualised), and RSI.

Squeeze risk (−100 to +100) shows how one-sided positioning is. We take 7-day z-scores of four-exchange funding, the Binance futures basis, long/short ratios (all accounts and top traders), the 6-hour taker buy/sell balance, the Deribit 25Δ risk reversal and the 24-hour liquidation imbalance; rising open interest amplifies the signal. Positive means crowded shorts (short-squeeze risk), negative means crowded longs. The value is smoothed over 6 hours, with a 3- and 7-day backdrop.

Coinbase premium is the gap between BTC on Coinbase (BTC/USD) and Binance (BTC/USDT). Moves under 0.05% are treated as noise.

Fractals

We take the latest 4-hour candles (2-week, 50-day and 6-month windows) and search the entire BTC history since August 2017 for stretches of the same shape by correlation, including ones that played out 0.5–2× faster or slower. Then we look at what price did after each match. This is statistics of similar situations, not a prediction.

Articles and corrections

News, articles and reviews are written from primary sources: numbers and quotes only with a link, no invented facts. Updated stories show the update date. Found a mistake? Tell us (see contact) and we will fix and note it.

How we make money

In the exchange ranking some buttons are partner (referral) links: if you sign up through them, the exchange pays CoinLab a commission and you may get a bonus. These exchanges are marked “CoinLab picks · partners”. Partnerships affect the order at the top of the ranking, not the facts: fees, licences, pros and cons come from official sources. The rest of the ranking follows CoinGecko’s trust score.

Risk

Crypto assets are highly volatile and you can lose all the money you put in. Nothing on this site is investment, tax or legal advice. Check whether crypto and a given exchange are allowed where you live.
