How to read ETF flows
Spot Bitcoin ETFs are US exchange-traded funds that hold actual bitcoin. When investors buy shares, the fund buys BTC; when they sell, the fund sells. Daily net flow is therefore direct demand for bitcoin from traditional investors: pensions, advisers and hedge funds.
Daily figures arrive after the US close and are finalized the next morning. Several days of large inflows usually support the price and a run of outflows weighs on it, though the link is not instant: derivatives and macro matter too.
