How to read it
A halving cuts the miner reward per block in half. It happens every 210,000 blocks, roughly every four years, and is written into Bitcoin’s code. Halvings are why Bitcoin’s supply converges on 21 million coins.
After a halving half as many new coins reach the market and miners’ BTC revenue halves — weaker miners switch off and hashrate can dip for a while. Historically halvings were followed by bull phases, but many other factors move the market at the same time: the past does not guarantee a repeat.
How it is calculated
We take the current block height from mempool.space every 15 minutes. The date is an estimate assuming 10-minute blocks: if hashrate grows faster than difficulty, blocks come a bit quicker and the halving arrives earlier. Current block: 970,538.
