Texas Brothers Get 15+ Years for $8M Crypto Kidnapping
A US federal court sentenced Raymond and Isiah Garcia to 15 and 15.5 years for holding a Minnesota family at gunpoint and forcing out over $8M in crypto.

A US federal court sentenced Texas brothers Raymond and Isiah Garcia to 15 and 15.5 years in prison for the armed robbery and kidnapping of a Minnesota family, in which more than $8 million in cryptocurrency was taken. The sentences were handed down Thursday, Oct. 29, according to MPR News and Fox 9.
Details
Prosecutors say the brothers traveled from Texas to Grant, Minnesota, in September 2025, ambushed a man outside his home and forced his family inside at gunpoint. His wife and adult son were held for hours while the man was made to transfer crypto. When it emerged that more funds sat on hardware devices at the family's cabin three hours away, Isiah Garcia drove the victim there and had him move the rest, The Block reports.
The victim's son managed to call 911, and the brothers fled to Texas, where they were tracked down and arrested. Raymond Garcia, 24, received 15 years; Isiah Garcia, 25, received 15.5 years. Both pleaded guilty in June to interference with commerce by robbery. US Attorney Daniel Rosen called it "a brazen and calculated act of violence against the victim and his family." The Justice Department announced the original charges in 2025.
What it means for the market
The case is one of the more prominent in a string of physical attacks on crypto holders, where criminals demand wallet access by force. The sentences signal that US courts treat such robberies as serious violent crimes. For holders, it is a reminder to keep holdings private and not to keep everything on one device.
