PeckShield: Crypto Hacks Hit $6.48B in October, Up 745%

October 2026 was the costliest month for crypto hacks on record by PeckShield's count: the blockchain security firm tallied 56 major attacks with losses of about $6.48 billion. September, by the same firm's count, came to $766.5 million, so losses rose roughly 745%. The report was published on November 1.

Details

One incident accounts for nearly all of it. The October 29 Binance hack is put at about $6.3 billion, with roughly $3 billion frozen, according to TechFlow citing PeckShield. Bitget (about $387 million) and Liquid Network (about $320 million, of which around $285 million was recovered) follow. We cover the Binance case in our running chronicle and the other two in the Q3 hacks review.

Year to date, losses reached about $8.6 billion as of October 31, with the ten largest attacks making up 92.3% of the total, the same data shows. Incrypted reports identical figures. PeckShield notes that frozen and recovered funds have not yet been subtracted from the totals.

What this means for the market

The month looks extreme because of a single event rather than a broad jump in activity: 56 incidents in October versus 55 in September. The three named attacks are quoted before frozen and recovered funds are deducted, so they do not add up directly to the monthly total.

For users, it is a reminder that even the largest exchanges remain a point of risk. Freezes and recoveries may shrink the final damage, so the monthly figure is likely to change. For prices and market conditions, see the daily brief.
