About

Bybit, founded in 2018 and based in Dubai, is one of the largest derivatives venues by volume. It started as a perpetual futures exchange and now also offers around 390 spot assets, options, copy trading, bots, a card and stock CFDs.

For Russian traders it remains one of the few major options: Russia is not on its restricted list, there is a Russian interface and RUB P2P is active. Keep in mind that, under Russian law, residents must trade only through intermediaries registered with the central bank from 1 July 2027.

In February 2025 Bybit suffered the largest hack in crypto history ($1.5B) but absorbed the loss with its own funds and loans. Fees are standard: 0.1% on spot, 0.02% / 0.055% on futures.

Pros

  • Strong derivatives offering and deep futures liquidity
  • Available to Russian residents, active RUB P2P
  • MiCA licence in the EU and SCA licence in the UAE
  • Copy trading, bots and TradFi in one account

Cons

  • $1.5B hack in 2025
  • Fewer spot assets than MEXC or KuCoin
  • No native token for fee discounts
  • Welcome rewards vary by region and account and change often

Verification (KYC)

KYC has been mandatory since May 2023: unverified accounts can only close positions and withdraw; new trades and deposits are blocked.

For users in Russia

Russia is not on Bybit's list of restricted jurisdictions (Help Center, updated 7 May 2026; only Russian-controlled regions of Ukraine are excluded). RUB P2P is active: on 7 October 2026 there were 674 ads selling USDT for roubles. Bybit has made no official statement about leaving Russia. Russia's law on digital currencies (passed by the State Duma on 21 July 2026, in force from 1 September 2026) requires residents to trade crypto only through intermediaries registered with the Bank of Russia from 1 July 2027; banks are to block payments to unregistered platforms.

Security

On 21 February 2025 the Lazarus Group stole about $1.5B in ETH from a cold wallet — the largest crypto hack on record. Bybit closed the ETH gap within days through loans and purchases, so customers lost nothing; it publishes Merkle-tree proof of reserves and runs an insurance fund for derivatives.

Licenses and registrations

  • EU — MiCA (Austria, FMA, May 2025)
  • UAE — Virtual Asset Platform Operator licence (SCA, October 2025)
  • Kazakhstan (AIFC, AFSA)
  • India (FIU registration)
