Strategy bought 267 BTC for $22.1 million between Oct. 12 and Oct. 18, 2026, at an average price of $82,900 per coin, according to an 8-K filing submitted to the SEC on Monday, Oct. 19. Holdings rose to 848,517 BTC, while $193.1 million went to repurchasing its own STRC preferred shares.
Details
The purchase was funded by selling 140,872 MSTR common shares through the ATM program, raising $22.0 million net, plus $0.1 million of cash. Remaining ATM capacity for common stock as of Oct. 18 was $18.79 billion. No STRF, STRC, STRK or STRD shares were sold during the week. Total spending on bitcoin is about $64.02 billion at an average of $75,446 per coin, all figures including fees.
The main outlay was the STRC buyback: the company retired 1,938,780 shares for $193.1 million, nearly nine times its bitcoin spending. The board raised the preferred repurchase authorization from $2.0 billion to $3.0 billion, leaving $1.16 billion available. No MSTR common shares were repurchased, with $1.0 billion still authorized.
The buyback was paid from cash on hand. Strategy also used $45.5 million from its USD reserve to pay preferred dividends. As of Oct. 18, the reserve stood at $4.83 billion and USD cash at $447.3 million.
A week earlier Strategy bought 250 BTC at $86,194 and spent $192.4 million on STRC. This week's purchase was slightly larger (267 BTC vs. 250), at an average price $3,294 lower per coin.
What it means for the market
Strategy remains a buyer, but its pace is a few hundred coins a week while most of the money goes to supporting its own preferred stock. Raising the buyback cap to $3.0 billion suggests it plans to keep doing so. For the balance of supply and demand in bitcoin, other flows, above all spot ETFs, remain the deciding factor.
