$25M in Bitcoin: Robinhood Adds BTC to Its Balance Sheet for First Time
Robinhood has bought $25 million of bitcoin for its own balance sheet, roughly 300 BTC at current prices and under 0.5% of its cash. It is the firm's first such buy.

Robinhood has bought $25 million worth of bitcoin and placed it on its own balance sheet. The purchase was announced on Oct. 7, 2026, by Johann Kerbrat, senior vice president and general manager of crypto and international at the company. Blockchain analytics firm Arkham Intelligence described it as Robinhood's first corporate bitcoin purchase, according to Bitcoin.com News. At current prices, $25 million buys roughly 300 BTC (our estimate; the company did not disclose an exact coin count).
The details
Kerbrat framed the move as a vote of confidence in crypto's future and a step toward diversifying the company's assets. Speaking to The Block, he said it was mainly about aligning Robinhood with the crypto community, and acknowledged that the sum is modest for a company valued at around $100 billion. No SEC filing on the purchase has been made so far.
The position is indeed small: Robinhood reported about $5.4 billion in cash and cash equivalents as of June 30, so the bitcoin allocation is under 0.5% of that. The company has not disclosed a purchase schedule, target allocation or financing plan, which sets it apart from dedicated treasury buyers such as Strategy, which lifted its stack to 848,000 BTC last week.
The decision was nearly a year in the making. In November 2025, after its third-quarter results, CEO Vlad Tenev said the company was still thinking about holding bitcoin, while finance chief Shiv Verma questioned the need when shareholders can already buy BTC through the app (The Block, Bitcoin Magazine). Crypto then accounted for about a fifth of Robinhood's revenue.
What it means for the market
In flow terms, $25 million barely registers in the bitcoin market. The signal matters more: one of the largest US retail brokerages now holds bitcoin itself, adding a mainstream financial name to a list of corporate holders dominated by dedicated treasury vehicles.
Bitcoin trades near $83,100, down about 1% over 24 hours and 2.1% over the week. We track price action and institutional demand in the daily brief and on the bitcoin page.
