Bitcoin miner Riot Platforms said in its third-quarter 2026 results on Nov. 4 that it sold 20,264 BTC for roughly $1.5 billion over the first nine months of the year. At Sept. 30 it held 2,418 BTC, worth about $202 million at $83,554 per coin.
Details
Quarterly revenue was $181.4 million (Q3 2025: $180.2 million): $116.0 million from bitcoin mining, $18.4 million from data centers and $47.0 million from engineering. Net income was $4.0 million. Production rose 16% to 1,637 BTC from 1,406 BTC a year earlier. The company says the proceeds from bitcoin sales went primarily to fund data center development.
Riot ended the quarter with $950.2 million in cash and bitcoin: $748.2 million in unrestricted cash (excluding $79.2 million restricted) plus 2,418 BTC. It repaid in full and closed its $200 million Coinbase credit facility, releasing the pledged bitcoin.
Separately, in an 8-K filing, Riot disclosed that its custody agreement with NYDIG Trust, signed Nov. 1, 2023, terminated automatically on Oct. 29 once the assets were transferred to BitGo Bank & Trust. It paid no early-termination penalties.
What it means for the market
Riot, one of the larger public miners, has cut its bitcoin reserve to a small share of its balance sheet: 2,418 BTC is only about a fifth of its cash and bitcoin holdings. It fits a pattern of miners selling what they produce and redirecting capacity toward data centers. For the market that is extra supply from public miners, though 20,264 BTC over nine months averages roughly 74 BTC a day, small next to daily trading volumes.
