Binance to Close Its French Customer Accounts on Dec. 31

Binance has told its French customers that it will close their accounts on Dec. 31, 2026. The emails went out on Nov. 6, according to Cryptoast and Cryptoactu. From Nov. 29, the exchange will charge a monthly fee on whatever is left in the account.

Details

Both outlets report the fee at 0.025% of the balance per month, with a 10 USDC minimum. The first deduction comes within three days of Nov. 29 and the second after Dec. 24. Users who withdraw everything before Nov. 29 pay nothing. Because of the minimum, a 15 USDC balance would be wiped out across the two deductions.

French accounts are currently withdrawal-only; deposits are blocked. The cause is the missing MiCA licence: Binance did not secure one by the June 30, 2026 deadline and has been winding down services for French users since July 1. Cryptoast quotes the email as saying that assets left after Dec. 31 "may be converted, transferred, or otherwise processed" under the Terms of Use. We found no official Binance announcement page at the time of writing; the details come from customer emails quoted by the press.

What it means for the market

For French users this moves Binance from restrictions to a full exit, with withdrawals the only action left and a fixed window to use it. For the wider EU market, it shows what lacking a MiCA licence costs: access to one of the bloc's largest markets until approval arrives. See also the live price in the daily brief and our news feed.
