15 Mining Firms Back Tether's Open-Source MDK Toolkit
Bitmain, Canaan, MicroBT, F2Pool and 11 others back Tether's open-source MDK for mining automation. Version 0.11 is out, with a stable 1.0 targeted by year-end.

Tether said on Oct. 24 that 15 companies from the mining industry now back its open-source Mining Development Kit (MDK), a toolkit for automating bitcoin mining. They include hardware makers Bitmain, Canaan and MicroBT, and pools F2Pool and Foundry Digital. Version 0.11 was released at the Plan ₿ Forum in Lugano (Oct. 23–24), with the first stable 1.0 release targeted for the end of 2026 (Tether).
Details
The backers listed by Tether are ACME Swisstech, Bitdeer, BITMAIN, Canaan Inc., Elektron Energy, EMCD, F2Pool, Foundry Digital, Heatbit Inc., Luxor Technology, MicroBT, OCEAN (Bitcoin Ocean, LLC), Proto (a Block, Inc. unit), SpiderPool and Stratum V2.
MDK is an open framework meant to make mining infrastructure interoperable across vendors. Developers can build applications and autonomous systems once, without a separate integration for each manufacturer or pool. Participants will build MDK Worker modules that connect their equipment, pools or software to a common interface (MDK documentation).
According to Tether, its QVAC mining agent already runs on MDK as a demo application. CEO Paolo Ardoino said: "Software will increasingly operate physical infrastructure. Mining exemplifies this problem today. MDK lets companies retain control while creating the common foundation developers need." The announcement was also covered by ForkLog.
What it means for the market
For miners, this is a step toward a shared software layer: today each manufacturer and pool has its own interfaces, and automation, especially AI-driven, has to be adapted to each. Backing from major ASIC makers and pools raises the odds that MDK becomes a common standard, but real adoption will depend on the 1.0 release and the number of finished modules.
