Ripple Prime Launches 24/7 Institutional Perps on 110+ TradFi Markets

Ripple Prime on October 16 launched a product for institutional clients: around-the-clock perpetual swaps on more than 110 traditional financial markets, including stocks, equity indices, ETFs, metals, energy, and forex. The contracts reference perpetuals listed on Trade.xyz, a platform built on the Hyperliquid blockchain exchange. Ripple Prime acts as the principal counterparty for all institutional clients.

Details

Trade.xyz processed $59.4 billion in perpetual volume in September 2026, representing 23.9% of Hyperliquid's total. Weekend daily average volume on the platform reached $541 million. The product accepts RLUSD as collateral; Ripple holds $2.6 billion in RLUSD reserves against $2.4 billion in circulation — a 105.8% coverage ratio.

To validate weekend pricing accuracy, Ripple Prime analyzed 614 market-weekend intervals: in 70.7% of cases, the final weekend price ended up closer to Monday's open than Friday's close, with a median absolute error of 53.4 to 113.3 basis points. Cross-margining is supported: an example portfolio of $60M in equity swaps (12% margin) and $40M in energy swaps (15% margin) reduces total margin requirements from $13.2M to $9.9M — a 25% saving.

Ripple Prime's operating entity is incorporated in the British Virgin Islands. The CFTC issued guidance on 24/7 trading in May 2026; the SEC and CFTC jointly sought comments on portfolio-margin harmonization in June 2026.

What it means for markets

Institutional 24/7 perps on traditional assets running on Hyperliquid's decentralized infrastructure represent one of the first direct bridges between TradFi and DeFi in the derivatives space. If the product gains traction, it could draw large institutional participants to Hyperliquid — players previously constrained by the trading hours of traditional exchanges. The key unknown is regulatory standing: Ripple Prime operates through a BVI entity and targets professional investors, but the 24/7 TradFi-derivatives space lacks an established regulatory framework.
