Mt. Gox Delays Creditor Repayment Deadline to October 2027
Mt. Gox's trustee moved the creditor repayment deadline from Oct. 31, 2026 to Oct. 31, 2027, citing unfinished creditor procedures and payment-processing problems.

The rehabilitation trustee for Mt. Gox has pushed back the creditor repayment deadline by another year, from Oct. 31, 2026 to Oct. 31, 2027 (Japan time). The change is posted on the official Mt. Gox website, in a notice dated Oct. 16.
Details
The extension covers three kinds of payouts: base, early lump-sum and intermediate repayments. The date moves with court approval, according to the trustee's notice. As CryptoSlate and crypto.news report, trustee Nobuaki Kobayashi said many creditors have not completed the required procedures, while others ran into problems when their payments were processed.
Payouts through exchanges including Kraken and Bitstamp began in July 2024. The notice gives no new figures on how much BTC remains in Mt. Gox wallets or how many creditors are still unpaid. The deadline has been moved before: earlier notices on the site extended it to 2025 and 2026.
What it means for the market
Until repayments are finished, the bitcoin still held by Mt. Gox stays in its wallets. Markets tend to treat any movement of those coins as a possible source of selling pressure, but sales are not guaranteed, since creditors decide what to do with what they receive. The new date means that supply overhang could drag on for another year.
