JPMorgan Brings JPMD Deposit Token to Ethereum Mainnet
JPMorgan expanded its JPMD deposit token to Ethereum mainnet for institutional clients via Kinexys — the bank's third public blockchain after Base and Canton.

JPMorgan expanded its dollar deposit token JPMD to Ethereum mainnet, Bloomberg reported on October 19, 2026. The bank's blockchain unit, Kinexys by J.P. Morgan, is running the operations, and the token remains restricted to approved institutional clients only.
Details
JPMD is not a stablecoin. It is a direct liability of JPMorgan Chase as a federally chartered bank — not a crypto-native issuer — and is backed by the U.S. banking regulatory framework, including deposit insurance protections. It cannot be traded on public exchanges and is not available to retail investors.
On Ethereum, JPMD is intended for settling trades involving tokenized assets and providing collateral for those transactions. It enables 24/7, near-instant transfers between institutional counterparties, unlike conventional bank transfers that are limited to business hours and take days to settle.
Ethereum is JPMD's third public blockchain, following the launch on Base (Coinbase's Ethereum Layer 2) in November 2025 and on Canton Network in January 2026, according to Bloomberg and ChainCatcher. JPMorgan has also trademarked "JPME," signaling a planned euro-denominated version of the token.
What This Means for Markets
JPMorgan's move to Ethereum mainnet is a notable signal from traditional finance: the largest U.S. bank is now using a permissioned public blockchain for institutional settlement. This contrasts with the industry's earlier preference for private networks. The expansion deepens the institutional infrastructure for tokenized assets and sets a precedent for other TradFi players considering public chains.
For retail investors, the direct impact is limited — JPMD doesn't affect ETH liquidity and isn't accessible outside JPMorgan's institutional client network. In the longer term, growing institutional demand for blockchain settlement rails strengthens Ethereum's position as infrastructure for tokenized finance.
