BlackRock Files for Bitcoin ETF With Downside Protection
BlackRock filed with the SEC on Oct. 19 for the iShares Bitcoin Managed Protection ETF, offering capped IBIT upside and downside protection. Ticker, fee undisclosed.

BlackRock filed with the SEC on Oct. 19 for a new fund, the iShares Bitcoin Managed Protection ETF. It is designed to give exposure to bitcoin upside through the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) while offering protection against losses. The ticker, fee and launch date have not been disclosed.
Details
According to The Block, the fund seeks to provide upside exposure to IBIT or similar bitcoin exposure up to an approximate limit, while providing a level of downside protection. In practice, potential gains are capped and losses are cushioned. Crypto Briefing adds that the fund would sit on top of IBIT rather than hold bitcoin directly.
It is BlackRock's third bitcoin ETF strategy. IBIT launched in January 2024, and the firm introduced the iShares Bitcoin Premium Income ETF, which earns option premiums, in June 2026. The new fund still needs to clear the SEC process before it can trade.
What it means for the market
Capped-risk products target conservative investors put off by bitcoin's volatility. If approved, the fund could widen the pool of people willing to hold BTC exposure in ordinary brokerage accounts. For now it is only a filing: the protection terms, return cap and fee will become clear later.
