Anthropic S-1: US Sold Forfeited FTX-Linked Shares for $627M
Anthropic's IPO filing discloses that in October 2025 the US government sold 4,453,900 forfeited Series B shares, tied to the FTX case, for about $627 million.

The US government sold 4,453,900 Anthropic Series B shares, forfeited by former holders in legal proceedings, for about $627 million in October 2025. The sale is disclosed in Anthropic's IPO registration statement, Form S-1, filed with the SEC on October 26, 2026.
Details
According to the S-1, Anthropic repurchased the shares from the US government at $140.9676 each and contemporaneously resold them to nine accredited investors at the same price. The company says the shares were forfeited in legal proceedings to which it was not a party, and that it received no net proceeds from the transactions.
The filing does not name the former holders or say where the money went. Crypto outlets such as TokenPost and KuCoin News tie the stake to the FTX case and say the proceeds were meant for the bankrupt exchange's creditors; the S-1 itself says nothing of the kind, so treat that as media reporting. The same outlets value the block at $3.94 billion at the expected IPO price, a figure that is not in the filing. By our own calculation, at the Series G-1 round price ($259.1364 a share) the block would be worth about $1.15 billion.
Anthropic has applied to list its Class A shares on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker "ANT". The filing does not yet give a price range.
What it means for the market
For crypto, this is mainly a footnote to the FTX saga: a 2022 startup bet turned into a large sum by 2025. There is no direct effect on the BTC price; see the live rate on the front page.
How the proceeds are distributed to FTX creditors has not been disclosed in public documents. This is not investment advice.
